Not a client session passes that we don't discover something that has been received as a gift that they don't need, use or love, and yet hold on to because they don't want to hurt the giver's feelings. These collective experiences have given me an expanded view of gift giving - and receiving! Here's the CliffsNotes version:
Gift Giving - go for experiences and consumables. Take a few minutes to really think about the recipient, and choose accordingly. Does she love to dance? How about dance lessons at Suzy and Hondo's? Is he a workout fiend? Classes at Fusion Fitness Studio are always a hit! Are they outdoor enthusiasts? Minnesota State Parks have a gift card that is applicable for all kinds of outdoor things! Need more ideas? Check out my printable resource chock-full of gift experiences!
Gift Receiving - Remember it is the thought behind the gift, not the physical gift itself that has meaning. How many "gifts" do you have lying around that you don't need, use, or love? It's OK to let them go - you have my permission as your virtual clutter coach! We retain the memory of the gift giver, and that is what is truly important.
Have you given an experience instead of a physical gift? I'd love to hear about it - please share in the comments section!
Happy Gift Giving, my friends.
